TD Bank Group has announced a gift of $100,000 in support of Athabasca University’s Learning Communities initiative. The gift, over three years, will provide opportunities for First Nations and Metis communities to foster learning success in adult learners. This three year initiative will focus on integrating three tested approaches in communities: community workshops, Mentor circles and the Learning Communities website. The gift was announced at an event in Calgary on November 5th.

The Learning Communities project is based upon a model of empowering communities at the grassroots level to foster educational success.  More than three thousand learners from fourteen First Nations and Métis communities have so far been referred to the project by Learning Communities Project co-ordinators.

Athabasca University has a long-standing relationship with TD, including an affinity partnership with TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, part of the TD Bank Group.
