Order of Athabasca University inductee Bernard Wiese passes away

Credit to Thomas A. Edge Archives & Special Collections

It is with great sadness that AU informs the community of the passing of Bernard Wiese, a 2009 inductee into the Order of Athabasca University. Bernard passed away last Wednesday in hospital in Westlock, Alberta. He was 87 years old.

For many years, Mr. Wiese collected antique instruments, photos, and other artifacts from northern Alberta, especially from the Fort Chipewayan and Athabasca areas. In 2007, he made a gift of two major collections to the university, and the Order of Athabasca recognized that valuable contribution.

Collections of this scope, size, quality and authenticity have added immeasurably to Canada’s creative treasure. The collections are available in Athabasca for the world to use.

All of us at Athabasca University offer our sincere regrets to Bernard’s wife Audrey and his children, Barbara and Keith.
