Prominent Edmonton architect to chair university board

The Board of Governors and Margaret Mrazek, former Acting Chair, are pleased to welcome the appointment of Vivian Manasc as Chair of the Governors of Athabasca University. The appointment was made by the Honorable Marlin Schmidt, Minister of Advanced Education on March 14, 2017.

Vivian Manasc is the Senior Principal at Manasc Isaac, an Alberta-based architectural and engineering studio, is past- President of the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada, and past VP of the Canada Green Building Council. Vivian’s vision and skill is reflected in successful projects such as the LEED Gold Water Centre in Calgary, Calgary’s EOC, the Academic Research Centre at Athabasca University, PCL North American Headquarters, and the post-fire reconstruction of the Slave Lake Government Centre and Library.

She studied architecture at McGill University and completed an MBA at the U of A.

Vivian’s passion and commitment to outstanding sustainable architecture has been recognized nationally. As a member of the National Capital Commission Advisory Committee on Design, Vivian provides advice on architectural, and sustainable design aspects of our capital’s built environments.

Following the launch of Manasc Isaac in 1997, Vivian launched Manasc Isaac’s reimagine initiative, focused on greening existing buildings, the Blue Sky Award to assist non-profit organizations to realize their dream facilities, as well as the First Nations Conference on Sustainable Buildings and Communities, to enhance the quality of life in First Nations communities across Canada. She recently launched Manasc Isaac Architects’ studio in Bucharest, Romania, known as “Latitudine 53”.
