Alberta tuition announcement
In keeping with our commitment to openness, I want to share an update with you on an important announcement that affects all Athabasca University (AU) learners.
Today, the Government of Alberta furthered its commitment to ensuring post-secondary education remains affordable and accessible for Albertans, Canadians, and international students. The government will be freezing tuition and mandatory fees through to the 2020-2021 academic year. It was further announced that the government will make changes within the Post-Secondary Learning Act to regulate and cap tuition beginning in 2020-2021.
All of us at AU welcome this announcement, and we look forward to working with the Government of Alberta to integrate the new tuition regulations into our planning.
Increasing access to post-secondary learning is central to AU’s mission, a core tenant of our strategic plan, IMAGINE: Transforming Lives, Transforming Communities, and a key priority outcome for AU in 2020.
As you have experienced, AU’s learning model already provides many efficient, affordable, and flexible ways to open high quality post-secondary learning, allowing you to achieve your academic goals while also maintaining full- or part-time work. As a learner at AU, this announcement also adds financial predictability to you and your family. It is good news for our entire learner community.
