AU mourns passing of Jim Donlevy, WHL Director of Education Services
Athabasca University (AU) is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of James Donlevy, an Order of Athabasca recipient, on Sunday, August 4, 2019.
Donlevy was the Director of Education Services for the Western Hockey League (WHL) and an instrumental part of creating the WHL Scholarship program. The program is the largest privately-funded amateur sports scholarship program in Canada and since its inception in 1993, has granted more than 6,000 scholarships totalling an investment of $25 million by WHL clubs.
On June 14, 2014 James Donlevy was inducted into the Order of Athabasca University in recognition of his work developing a partnership between AU and the WHL. It was in 2009 when James contacted AU to explore the open and flexible university options for WHL players. To date, hundreds of WHL players and alumni have become AU learners—a relationship we value deeply. We help to enable these learners to achieve their educational goals through our online learning model while still allowing them to live their dreams of playing competitive hockey.
Our deepest condolences and sympathies to James’ wife Elaine and all of his friends and family.
