Care-taker, referee, meal planner, chef, cleaning service, party and event organizer, chauffeur, life-coach, stylist, entertainer, ATM, enforcer, fixer, multi-tasker, finder of “have you seen my other sock”, crisis negotiator, memory-maker, chief comforter, teacher…and this isn’t even the full list of all the things that a Mom does.
On top of all that, she is an online learner, working hard and investing in herself too.
Athabasca University (AU) is incredibly proud of the commitment and perseverance our incredible learners show us. We see it every day, and we’re blown away by your profound ability to juggle so many important tasks.
Has AU helped to transform your life? From a mother’s perspective, we would love to hear your story. We’ll feature your work on The Hub, share your story far and wide, and even send you an exclusive Beyond 50 t-shirt for your efforts.
Our learners and alumni have pursued and continued their educational dreams at AU often against insurmountable odds; aiming to achieve their highest academic goals, alongside the joys, pains, and obstacles of everyday life. All of this while raising children (and see list above).
It’s truly inspiring.
That’s why we want to empower you to narrate your own journey and inspire others with it.
Here's what we're looking for
We’re looking for a story about your personal journey.
What we need:
A 400-600 word personal essay outlining why you chose AU and how the flexibility has helped you achieve your educational goals, all while continuing with everything else you do.
The final paragraph of your essay should be focused on your future, whether it be the future of yourself as a learner, as a caretaker, as a partner, as a go-getter, or perhaps as the caretaker of amazing children with a blank-canvas-of-a-future.
Three or four photos of: yourself, yourself and your kids, yourself and your entire family, yourself and your inspiration(s), your favourite study spot, your work space, your office… you get the idea!
That’s it! Email us at social@AthabascaU.ca with the subject line ‘Transforming Lives: Moving Beyond’. We can’t wait to hear from you!
