The Hub In memoriam

The Athabasca University community is saddened by the loss of longtime colleague David Wareham Evans. He passed away on July 29, 2023.

Evans spent 44 years working at AU, making him one of the longest-serving staff at the university. He worked in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, teaching history and developing courses. His research was primarily focused on war studies and major conflicts.

“David was a knowledgeable and kind instructor, never hesitating to put his students first, even when he was gravely ill and at the hospital,” said Dr. Manijeh Mannani, dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. “David’s colleagues remember him fondly for his generous spirit; he was always there to help and offer practical good advice. He is greatly missed.”

Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless students Evans’s worked with during his tenure.
