Welcome Dr. Andrew Perrin, Associate Vice President, Research
Following an extremely competitive international search, we are pleased to announce Dr. Andrew Perrin has been selected as Athabasca University’s next Associate Vice President, Research.
Andrew is passionate about doing and delivering research differently, and brings a deep appreciation for the opportunities and potential AU has as a research-intensive, open, online university. At Trinity Western University, he served as Canada Research Chair in Religious Identities of Ancient Judaism (Tier II), Associate Professor of Religious Studies, and Director of the Dead Sea Scrolls Institute.
A prolific researcher, his research program about the life and literature of ancient Judaism has garnered more than $1 million in research revenue, resulted in 52 publications and 44 presentations in top-tier platforms, and open-access mobilization initiatives exceeding 120,000 impressions online.
He is a past fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and Albright Institute for Archaeological Research as well as a recipient of the David Noel Freedman Award for Excellence and Creativity in Hebrew Bible Scholarship, the Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise, and the Norman E. Wagner Award for Innovative Use of Technology in Research.
With a projected start date of Oct. 1, 2020, Andrew is keen to return to his home province of Alberta to lead AU in cultivating a thriving research community that is locally invested yet internationally oriented.
