Update for students affected by wildfire

Athabasca University (AU) extends our thoughts to our students, alumni, and their families and friends who are dealing with wildfires.

We can appreciate that your AU coursework is undoubtedly the least of your priorities at this time. If there is any way that we can help alleviate concerns you have about your studies with AU, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Disaster contingency

If you are an AU student who lives in a community that has been evacuated or are supporting one of these communities as a first responder, please know that we are here to help.

Options for replacing learning resources, re-booking exams, course extensions and withdrawals are available and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

These supports have been enacted to ensure that your studies do not add to your current stress. If you have other questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Information Centre (contact info below).

AU Information Centre

For more information on the above disaster contingencies for learners, please contact our Information Centre by phone during business hours, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Mountain) or by email.

AU Natural Disaster Emergency Bursary

Student financial aid

The Canada Student Assistance Program has implemented supports for student loan borrowers, such as fast tracking repayment assistance (RAP). More details can be found through the National Student Loans Service Centre.

Alberta student aid borrowers will need to contact the Alberta Student Aid Service Centre to notify them of the impacts of wildfire on their studies and to get further information on the supports available, including RAP.
