The Hub Bringing convocation to Katy Lowe

Even though our learners are apart, they’re connected.

This story speaks volumes about compassion, togetherness, and the community that we, Athabasca University (AU), consider ourselves very lucky to be a part of.

Earlier this year Katy Lowe made a request of the AU community on Facebook. She wanted to hold a special graduation and photo shoot so her mother, who is battling cancer, could be part of it.

Once we saw the post, we knew it was something we wanted to be a part of. We had to make this experience meaningful. So we got in touch with Katy, and brought Convocation 2021 to her.

This is a beautiful story about the fabric of AU and the communities that encourage and lift each other up. It’s about generosity. It’s about the thoughtfulness of virtual strangers who found each other online and who genuinely care about their new friends.

Thanks for letting us be part of your graduation, Katy.
