Volunteer Service – Annette Cyr, MBA 2004 Oakville, ON
In 2009, Annette saw creating a nation-wide melanoma charity as the least she could do with her business education, consulting experience, and personal battle with disease. “This will not fail,” were mantra-like words she repeated, eyes-wide-open to the challenges of creating the Melanoma Network of Canada. She donated money and volunteered full-time hours to a cause and website that now connect patients across Canada; provides medical professionals information; and raises money and awareness for a lesser-known disease.
Distinguished – Margot Van Sluytman, MAIS 2012 Toronto, ON
Writing saved Margot at age 16 when her father was murdered. She wrote to express pain and heal, never knowing it would instigate a passion within to find a new social justice theory. She is a poet, teacher, sought-after speaker, and political influencer who is on the road to changing the current model of restorative justice through Sawbonna, a Zulu greeting that acknowledges our shared humanity.
