Thanks for sitting down with us! Can you tell us some of the highlights from the UWAC Case Competition?

Overall, it was a really great weekend! StrategyPhase Consulting, which was comprised of Lisa Harron, Sweeta Monga, Amir Banihas, and Michelle Rose, made the semi-finals and while we didn’t make it to the finals, it was a wonderful opportunity to meet other AU students. We worked together ahead of the competition to prepare and it was very satisfying to see how much we improved in presentation and case skills.

What was the best part about participating in this event?

The AU support for our team was phenomenal! We all felt our presentation skills greatly improved, while we really came together as a team and played to each other’s strengths.

Do you have any advice for teams competing in case competitions next year?

Organization and time management skills are imperative.  Case-writing time is very short. You really have to organize your time, so you have time to finish. We also spent time learning from the feedback given in practice sessions. Practice sessions were so very important!

It’s crucial that you know your team members strengths and play to those strengths as well. Having a balanced team with knowledge in different subject areas makes the team a lot stronger when competing.

Our approach showed us that it was important to think like a professional, instead of like a student. We really challenged ourselves to think of the practical applications of what you are doing and learning. Ultimately, you have to sell the message that you are presenting and have confidence.

Is there anything else you want to share?

This was such a fantastic learning experience. We all would recommend that students apply to be part of a case competition.  It’s a great way to meet other students and to develop the skills that are sometimes difficult to work on when completing school online.
