Introducing Dr. Kai Lamertz, DBA Program Director

I am pleased to welcome Dr. Kai Lamertz to his new role as the Faculty of Business DBA program director.

Dr. Lamertz has been an integral member of Athabasca University’s Faculty of Business since joining as an associate professor in 2015. Along with his new role of DBA program director, he currently teaches a plethora of DBA courses, leads student research workshops, and is a thesis supervisor. Kai’s areas of interest are in the study of relational, cultural, and social embeddedness of organizations. His research focuses on better understanding the intersection of micro and macro organizational behavior, examining such phenomena as networks in and between organizations, organizational identity and image, and organizational legitimacy. As DBA Program Director, he intends to contribute to our goal for AACSB accreditation, strengthens the connections among DBA courses for students, and ensure the continued rigor and flexibility of DBA offerings.

Dr. Lamertz completed his undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce with honours. He went on to obtain a PhD from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management in organization studies.

I am looking forward to the depth that Kai will bring to this role and his passion and commitment to excellence in teaching and research, as well as continuing to build and enhance relationships both internally and externally to grow and enrich the DBA program’s success.

I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Kay Devine for her thoughtful insight, leadership, and help not only in imagining what this program could be but also for helping to shape it into the successful program it has become today. We wish you the best of luck in your retirement and future endeavours.
