Why write: AU professors and authors discuss Reinekke Lengelle’s, Writing the Self in Bereavement
Dr. Reinekke Lengelle and Dr. Angie Abdou are both published authors who teach writing at Athabasca University (AU). In this three-part video series, they talk honestly about their approaches to writing, publishing, teaching, and living.
Episode 1: Exploring Lengelle's, Writing the Self in Bereavement
For Lengelle, losing her partner Frans was a life-changing and deeply sorrowful experience. In order to “be with her grief and respond to it,” she surrendered to her feelings and wrote a book called Writing the Self in Bereavement: A Story of Love, Spousal Loss, and Resilience. The book combines her personal story with the latest grief research.
In this video, Abdou and Lengelle talk about the usefulness of writing while coping with loss. They also explore how writing is both a companion and a means of exploring difficult experiences in ways that are ultimately transformative.
