In conversation with author and AU Writer in Residence Michael Winter

Writing is more than putting pen to paper—or keys to keyboard. It’s about creating a vivid backdrop to build believable characters and telling a story that’s compelling to readers.

It’s also a skill that takes time, practice, and effort—something that AU’s newest Writer in Residence, Michael Winter knows all about.

Winter recently joined Dr. Angie Abdou, AU Writer in Residence committee chair and associate professor of creative writing, for a conversation about writing. Winter shares his approach to the writing process, how he uses landscape and location to create characters, and what he teaches about teaching aspiring authors.

As Writer in Residence, Winter will devote most of his time to writing while also serving as a resource to learners, faculty, and the writing community at large.

Learn how you can get Winters’ feedback on your written work. You can find more about the submission process on the Writer in Residence page.
