Jennifer Schaeffer on “Fix This”

Jennifer Schaeffer, vice president information technology and chief information office with Athabasca University (AU), was recently interview on the “Fix This” podcast.

This podcast covered remote education in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic response.

Schaeffer was interviewed by Teresa Carlson, vice president of the worldwide public sector at Amazon Web Services (AWS).

In their discussion, Schaeffer covered the massive undertaking by AU’s IT team to rapidly shift many previously office-based operations to home-based operations. This four-day feat enabled AU’s team members from across the organization to continue supporting learners in the face of an unprecedented global pandemic.

They also talk about how AU’s partnership with AWS and the shift to a cloud-first approach helps AU to removing barriers for learners in accessing university-level education. The interview ends on an uplifting note, when they discuss the democratization of education and connecting rural and remote learners with educational opportunities.
