The Moustaches of #AthabascaU

Our vision at Athabasca University (AU) is Transforming Lives, Transforming Communities. As AU team members, learners, and alumni, we’re proud to support initiatives and research that will help transform the face of men’s health in our communities—in Canada and around the world.

That’s why we’re inviting everyone in the AU community to join our Movember team, The Moustaches of #AthabascaU.

Movember is an internationally recognized men’s health charity, with a focus on raising awareness of and funding research into prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. The money raised through the Movember campaign supports a broad range of initiatives worldwide.

In Canada, money supports the work of organizations such as Prostate Cancer Canada, the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health, Kids Help Phone, and several research universities across the country. Funding also supports international research into leading men’s health issues.

How can I get involved?

Participants are encouraged to begin November 1 with a clean shave, grow a moustache throughout the month, and raise money for the cause. Recognizing that not everyone is willing or able to grow a moustache, the Move for Movember campaign also encourages participants to get active, and pledge to walk a certain number of kilometres over the course of the month.

We’re also encouraging participants to send photos of their moustaches to social@athabascau.ca, and to tag photos of themselves on social media with #AthabascaU.
