PowerED™ by Athabasca University to offer AWS Academy’s Cloud Computing Curriculum through online delivery

December 5, 2019 | Athabasca University (AU) recently announced its participation in AWS Academy, an Amazon Web Services (AWS) program designed to help learners acquire the skills and credentials needed to successfully join the cloud IT workforce. This move comes a year after AU became the first Canadian post-secondary institution to enter into a formal collaboration agreement with AWS in 2018.

PowerED™ by Athabasca University launched its Digital Transformation Leadership Certificate in Cloud on November 12, 2019. This micro-learning digital credential includes five courses curated to help learners lead their organizations and transform their businesses through adoption of new technologies, the formation of new strategies and the conceptualization of new business models. The certificate will develop the technical and soft skills needed to lead digital transformation within organizations, with a focus on the rapidly growing cloud computing space – including helping learners pursue industry-recognized AWS Certifications.

AWS Academy Cloud Foundations is one of the five courses within the certificate and provides basic technical hands-on skills in one of today’s major digital disruptive technologies: cloud computing. The AWS Academy course is designed for learners who seek an overall understanding of cloud computing concepts, independent of specific technical roles. It provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support. This course also allows learners to test new skills and apply knowledge to working environments through a variety of practical exercises.

AWS Academy curriculum is developed and maintained by AWS subject matter experts, ensuring it is up to date and reflects current services and best practices. Courses are taught by AWS Academy accredited educators who are trained by AWS to help learners become proficient in AWS technology, the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform.

“Knowing how to apply cloud computing best practices to grow their businesses will help Albertan and Canadian entrepreneurs and managers innovate and succeed. PowerED’s online learning with AWS Academy curriculum gives our working learners an essential market-competitive edge,” Jennifer Schaeffer, AU Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer.

“PowerED™ by Athabasca University is proud to continue to leverage AU’s collaboration with AWS to be the first Canadian institution to make AWS Academy curriculum available online for our learners,” said Jessica Scott, Director, PowerED™. “Cloud computing has become the new normal for organizations around the world, and the mix of technical and soft skills that learners will develop through this certificate will position them well for their careers leading digital transformation today and in the future.”
