Additional Canada Research Chair coming to AU

Athabasca University’s world-class researchers will have access to an additional funded Canada Research Chair position, with a focus on ‘Disruptive Pedagogies.’

In November 2018, the Government of Canada announced funding for new Canada Research Chair allocations. From this announcement, Athabasca University will be getting an additional Tier II ‘special’ Canada Research Chair. The search for this new CRC will begin soon!

A Tier II nominee is someone who is at a minimum an assistant or associate professor or possesses the necessary qualifications to be appointed to these levels and is an excellent emerging world-class researcher who has demonstrated particular research creativity. The ‘special’ allocation allows AU to pick any one of the Tri-Agency funders to support this new CRC position.

The strategic focus of this CRC position will be on ‘Disruptive Pedagogies,’ one of the important themes in AU’s Strategic Research Plan. This focus will encourage applications from exceptional emerging scholars in education, science, humanities, social sciences, health, or business.

AU currently has four CRC, Tier II researchers: Mickey Vallee, Scott Ketcheson, Joe Cox, and Jeff Vallance. Having an additional CRC, Tier II will provide AU with the opportunity to nominate and add an outstanding researcher that will enrich our students’ learning and advance knowledge.
