5 great reasons to use your @athabasca.edu email account

1. Free software

Who doesn’t want free stuff? The single biggest benefit of using your @athabasca.edu email account is that you can get hundreds of dollars in free software.

Everyone who has access to one of these accounts also has access to Microsoft Office 365, and related software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Skype, Outlook and several others—at no additional cost. What’s even better is that you can install this software on up to 5 personal computers, so you can be more productive no matter where you’re working.

2. Student discounts

There are hundreds of vendors all over the world that offer discounted rates on products and services to students, including the likes of Apple, Amazon, Spotify, and countless others. Many of these vendors may ask for a valid student email address; if you’re registered at AU, that won’t be a problem for you!

3. The prestige

It’s going to be pretty tough to land that great job or internship if your prospective employer has to type out an email addressed to “dragonmaster420@probablyspam.biz.” By using your athabasca.edu email address, you’re telling those you communicate with that you’re serious about your education, serious about your credentials, and that they should seriously call you in for an interview.

4. Academic Impressions membership

Any AU student using an @athabasca.edu email address and who works in post-secondary or is interested doing so can access Academic Impressions and leadership, personal development, and skills-based training.

To register:

• Click on the Create Account/Login button in the upper right corner.
• Register using your @athabasca.edu email address.
• Complete your registration.

You may have to log out and log back in after registering.

5. Never miss important emails

You have invested your time and money in your education, and the last thing you need is to have your plans derailed by missing out on important information from AU like course contract reminders, access to tax forms, and notification if a student is about to go inactive.

Once you’re registered as a student and sign up for your email address, AU will send important messages to your @athabasca.edu account. If you’re not signed up—or if you’re not paying attention—you could be missing important information related to your program or courses.

Registering is simple

All AU students registered in a current or upcoming course are eligible for an account. If you have forgotten your Office 365 password, or haven’t activated your account yet, you can follow the instructions. The process will only take a few minutes.

Once you have activated your account, you’re ready to take advantage of all these perks! Just log in to your Office 365 account.

And even if you don’t want to make your @athabasca.edu email your primary address, you can still easily receive emails sent there by simply setting up your AU email account to forward all message to your personal account. You can find instructions on how to do that.
